Here is the squad’s second assignment, on algebra, and the solutions to the combinatorics assignment. Have fun!
This year’s team selection will again be based on three competitions (the BMO2, the AMO, and the APMO) and four assignments: one on each of the four Olympiad areas of algebra, combinatorics, geometry and number theory.
Here is the squad’s first assignment, on combinatorics. I’ll post the solutions in about a month, together with the second assignment, on algebra. Following our usual practice, you can get the solutions before then if you write to me with evidence that you’ve made a serious attempt.
Have fun!
Our first step in choosing the team to represent New Zealand at the 2012 IMO in Argentina is to choose 24 students to attend a week long training camp in Auckland in January. These students will be chosen using the 2011 Camp Selection Problems (pdf, 111k). Read more »
Here is the number theory assignment used as part of the squad training. Here are also the solutions to the geometry assignment.
Here is one of several training tests. These problems are intended to be quite hard, but several should be accessible to experienced students; all these problems are at a level expected at the IMO. Notice however that the problems are not in order of difficulty!
Solutions will follow a little later.
